Bloom Where You Are Planted

In our lives, we are challenged to bloom where you are planted.

This truth became real and spoke to my heart during our travels one summer.

We were driving down a 4 lane highway with a very large center median.

While stopped at a light, I noticed this plant blooming next to me. Right out my window. Not on the grassy side of the road but in the middle of the median.

The plant was growing right up out of a crack in the cement.

Not even just growing but actually flourishing.

I had to snap a picture.

Bloom Where You Are Planted - How to Grow, Bloom and Rest

This plant was covered in flowers of all stages… from fresh new buds to wilting blooms waiting to be blown off by a passing car or a windy afternoon.

In the midst of the hardest conditions a plant can face: cement, cars, exhaust, heat, wind…

Bright, sunny flowers shining in the sun

(ok, it might be called a weed by some but I thought it was beautiful)

Beauty where beauty shouldn’t be able to grow.

Life where life shouldn’t be possible.

Growth without aid.

Blooms where most would have failed.

To bloom where you are planted.

I’m not sure why this plant survived and thrived in the chaos.

There was no reason it should have had such incredible success.

Except God wanted it there.

And with His help, all things can grow. All things can bloom. No conditions are too harsh or too demanding.

Success is held right in His powerful hands.

I feel like that plant sometimes.

Bloom Where You Are Planted - How to Grow, Bloom and Rest

Experiencing growth in the midst of chaos.

Watching our family flourish in spite of harsh conditions.

Learning to make home out of people and not things.

Bloom where you are planted for that moment in time.

Understanding that it is because of God that we can grow and bloom and outlast the difficult circumstances around us.

Not only can we outlast and endure, but we can also be bright and beautiful and encouraging as we experience all the new life that this missions journey has for us.

A testimony to God’s faithfulness.

A glimpse of His power.

A show of His ability to make all things new.

Bloom where you are planted by Him each and every day.

Knowing our every success is for Him and by Him.

Striving to keep blooming no matter what, forever and always.

Thankful that our growth is not possible in our own strength and that blooms come through God’s amazing grace.

Everyday Moments

Here we are… mid-way through May! This year is flying by and I feel like we really have to pay attention or the days are gone. With everything going on… #getjoy. Praise. Give thanks. Trust. Hope. #ourgoodwinjourney #goodwintravels #africaisbeautiful
He’s home from another big weekend with a #hphcteam #kidmin training and a visit to @peoplescapetown! This week, we get to zoom in to @ohioministrynetwork conference along with some local meetings. Then, @reverendgoody takes off again for a week of teaching at the Bible school. With our heaters running and #goodwinhomeschool going strong. Happy Monday! #buggingyouteam #getjoy #ourgoodwinjourney
Sometimes, getting MKs to talk about their experiences takes a little extra thought, attention, care and loving questions. They are deep wells of experiences, griefs, joys and knowledge. I love getting to pull small #behindtheprayercard stories out of these amazing girls and hear their sweet perspectives of #overseaslife. Talk to an MK. Listen… really listen. Let the stories pour out. #goodwingirls #mklife #thirdculturekids #ourgoodwinjourney
Coordinating stuff on two continents. Sometimes… whew! A new driver, a closing on our house {thank you Lord!}, college/dual enrollment, work, all the insurances, planning work travels… with help from family, figuring out crazy time differences, and lots of emails and WhatsApps.
