Enjoy the Journey
Enjoy the journey is a phrase you hear often around the web these days.
But what does it really mean?
I was listening to Christian radio yesterday on my way to the Y to work out.
They were having a discussion about sayings that have greatly encouraged them over the course of their lives.
For me, it is the saying “Get Joy”. I’ve blogged about it before. Remembering to find joy, get joy, be joyful no matter what the circumstance.
Joy isn’t happiness… joy comes from knowing that God is with you all the time. Trusting that He is good and He is faithful and He is loving. That brings true, lasting joy to your heart.
Joy brings strength.
Strength that I’ve needed over and over and over throughout my years of life on this earth. Strength I know I’ll need again and again so I must choose to continue getting joy from the One who can truly give JOY.
Well, on the radio, one of the sayings they were discussing was “Enjoy the Journey”.
That goes perfectly with my life saying of “Get Joy” but even takes it one step further.
Not just getting joy, but learning to really, actually, fully ENJOY the Journey!
All of it… the messes, the mixups, the challenges, the struggles, the fun, the ordinary, the mundane… all of it can be enjoyed.
Instead of getting frustrated when my day is not going well or things just aren’t going as planned, I can slow down, take a deep breath and ask God to help me ENJOY.
I don’t want to wish away these years with little ones. Although they are hard and at times very overwhelming, I don’t want to rush through them. I need to slow down and enjoy them.
I don’t want to grumble or complain my way through this season of life! I don’t want to let circumstances dictate my attitude for the day.
I want to resolve ahead of time to ENJOY the Journey.
Those days that don’t go right, submit to the the One who holds the day in His mighty hands and choose to find joy, get joy and ENJOY!
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds…” James 1
“Go and enjoy… for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
“Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.” Psalm 86:4
“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.” Psalm 100:1
