On any given day, you could ask me and I would wholeheartedly say that I wanted God’s plan for me.
But, I am a planner. I like to know details. I want to know what to expect and how to handle what is coming my way.
That makes it hard to let go and let God make His plans for my day.
I am learning to balance my need for details with following God’s plan for me, learning to let Him have my week and my month and my year.
Ultimately, I want others to see my desire for the things of God rule over my need to have everything in order.
To be completely honest, I need to be okay with the unknowns of life. I need to rest in knowing that God is in control of every moment and that He orders my steps.
God’s Plan for Me
Proverbs 16 mentions this a few times.
“To man belong the plans of the heart,
but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
All a man’s ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.
Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.
The LORD works out everything for his own ends—
even the wicked for a day of disaster.”
If we break down the first four verses, we see…
We can make plans but the ability to carry out our plans in the right way comes from God.
We are not able to make impartial judgements on our own motives. We are often blind to our own faults and spiritual needs. God can and will reveal the true condition of our heart.
We have to give everything to God. Only through Him can we succeed. We should always be looking for His guidance and direction in every area of our lives. Read James 4:14-16
There will be appropriate consequences for sin. God will deal fairly with those who choose to defy Him and go against His plan.
Proverbs 16 also says,”a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps” and “blessed is he who trusts in the Lord” and “the lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”
I love that His plan is bigger than ours.
That He sees the whole picture and that He knows the details of our future.
I’m thankful for a God that I can trust with each unknown. He has the “unknowns” under control!
In the midst of all my plans, God’s plan will come to pass.
Even if I sometimes wonder how I got on this path.
If I choose to live in His plan, I can be used by Him for His glory.
I’m learning to live in God’s plan for me.
