Reading Over Personal Prayer Journals

Do you write a personal journal?

Do you ever go back through your old prayer journals?

I have been going through my old Prayer/Devotion Journals and I am amazed at the things God has done.

In this moment of my life, things are busy, emotions are strong, God is teaching me more every day.

I can’t pin down a word for where I am at… maybe contemplative?

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you just need God?

I just need Him. I am hungry for His help in every area, for His touch in the hidden areas of my heart.

Anyway, back to my journals… I must have been reading a devotional back in 2005 that dealt with quotes because I have a few really great quotes that I just want to share today.

Some things from my personal journal.

I hope it will get you thinking about where you are in your relationship with Him.

Some of these are quotes from other people, some are my own thoughts, some are scriptures… all have had an impact on my life, on my growth in God.

My Personal Journal Thoughts

Integrity – Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”

Attitude – Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Judging – God will bring judgement based on truth. When we judge others, we do NOT know the whole story. Romans 2:1-11

Kindness – Be kind. “Remember that everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” – Harry Thompson

Guidance – Isaiah 58:11 “The Lord will guide you always…” – “When we fail to wait prayerfully for God’s guidance and strength, we are saying with our actions, if not our lips, that we do not need Him.” – Charles Hummel

Wisdom is not just acquired information but practical insight with spiritual application.

Prayer for our kids – “Lord, may the circle of our family be unbroken when we cross to the other side.”

Joy – He is our never-ending source of joy. Let joy be evident in your life.

Thankful – To be in Christ means that I have things to be thankful for.

Fear – “We do not have to be afraid. No matter what we are going through, we can know that God and His all-encompassing love are with us. He says, “Don’t be afraid. I’m alive and I’m here to help you. The cross shows the depth of my love and the Resurrection show the depth of my power. Nothing can ever separate you from me!” “- Billy Graham

Seek first the kingdom of God – “The secret of happiness is not to do what you like to do, but to learn to like what you have to do.” – King George V

“Jesus accepts you the way you are but loves you too much to leave you that way.” – Lee Venden

Doing Good – We should be ever striving to do good, better today that we were yesterday. God expects change in lifestyle, standards and goals. Moving towards “meat” instead of “milk”.

I pulled these thoughts and quotes from a journal dated May 05 – April 06.

Personal Journal - Reading my Prayer Journals

I learned so much from digging back through my personal journal.

I realized that sometimes when God shows us something, we need to go back over it later and reread to soak it in once more.

I found sweet nuggets of truth that were worth seeing one more time.

I saw ways that God spoke into my life and how life changing they were for that moment and in a new moment.

Such a valuable exercise for those of us who keep a personal journal!

  1. Jenilee,thank you for the wonderful devotionals and thoughts you share with us from week to week. I loved the one about Job sacrificing for his children daily and encouraging them to examine their hearts. May we as Mom’s sacrifice our time daily in prayer for our children’s spiritual needs and may we encourage them to examine their hearts before God often. I sense your hunger for more of God and I’m there too. Writing down what He speaks to our spirit is a wonderful way to fellowship with Him. Proverbs 3:5&6
    Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths. Blessings from the Word!
