Parenting With Skillful Hands
Parents are always looking for positive parenting solutions.
Ways to skillfully parent our kids in godly ways.
Moments when we wish we had more positive parenting solutions at our finger tips!
A parenting moment happened while we were camping and the girls were playing with some other girls on the playground.
Another moment happened while talking to another mom a few days ago.
These moments got me thinking about how to raise my girls to love God in our world. To really live for him in more than just lip service, but with their lives. It is something that is never far from my mind.
Moments that encourage me to find the positive parenting solutions that I’m searching for.
How do I wage war for them and protect them from sin that seems so enticing and is so available even at their young ages? How do I stand in the gap for them and raise them to love God’s Word and stand for what is right even when it seems like no one else is standing with them?
How do I help them learn to choose God’s way even when they might be teased, mocked or feel left out?
How do I fight that kind of battle?
I found the answer right in Psalm 144.
Only by allowing myself to be trained by the God of the universe can I be ready for that kind of battle.
Positive Parenting Solutions
Bible verses that give us those positive parenting solutions we need every day.
Psalm 144:1 says, “Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.”
He trains our hands for war. He even is so detailed to train our fingers for the battle. He wants us to be skilled in what we do and He is willing to train us in the art of battle. Amazing.
David was up against war many times for the nation of Israel. He allowed himself to be trained and crafted into who God needed him to be for those battles.
Are we allowing God to train our hands for parenting our children in the world we live in today?
Psalm 78:72 says, “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
That was God-trained in David. He had integrity in his heart and skillful hands to lead.
As Christians, and as Christian parents, God calls us to wage spiritual battle against sin and Satan. Against the evil influences of this world and our own, our child’s own sinful tendencies. We are called to be concerned for the spiritual welfare of our kids.
God offers us the kind of training we need through His Word and through prayer and through godly people around us to be able to fight the battle with skillful and trained hands.
Psalm 144:3-11 reads a little differently. Here David is praising God for training him for battle and then he proclaims who he knows God to be in his life.
But, verse 3 is a prayer, a call out to God wondering if God sees him in his struggles.
“Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?”
David didn’t rely on just one instance of God’s power. He needed more of God. He needed God to show Himself faithful another time. Again and again he needed God to deliver and to protect and to guide and to train. David knew that one time wasn’t enough.
It is a life long process of learning just how BIG GOD IS and how strong we can be with GOD ON OUR SIDE!
And the same for parenting… every single parenting moment that comes our way is a moment we need God to step in, intervene and give us skillful hands.
What happens when we allow God to train us, to show us who He is and then we call on Him to act on our behalf again and again?
Psalm 144:12-14 “Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets.”
Do you see that?? It will effect our SONS AND DAUGHTERS!
What an incredible promise from God!
Psalm 144:15 says, “Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the Lord.”
I want to be one of those of whom this is true. I want to be one of those people that are blessed by God, who goes to battle with skillful hands.
I want to submit to His training. Remember that all things are possible with Him. Fight the battle for my girls and see God win the battle for me.
I want to find positive parenting solutions like these that will help me parent with skillful hands, hands trained for battle.
What about you?
I greatly blessed.
I long to read from you more
