See eye to eye in marriage?
Is that possible?
Blending marriage and the ability to see eye to eye is quite the task.
You are smiling right now because you KNOW exactly what I’m talking about.
Oh, this picture looks cute and sometimes it can seem like other couples always see eye to eye but the reality is something quite different.
What goes on behind closed doors can be very different from what we see at church or school or the soccer game on Saturday.
The actual act of being able to see eye to eye when you are married to another human being is so incredibly difficult.
Seeing things in opposite ways happens all. the. time.
to ALL of us.
From how you squeeze the toothpaste tube.
(Marriage fact – we have two separate toothpastes because I’m a “squeeze in the middle” and Jeremy is a “squeeze from the bottom”)
To how you handle parenting situations or movie standards or restaurant choices
Organizational differences, anyone?
Being able to see eye to eye requires patience, compromise, love, more patience, selflessness, and maybe even a little more patience.
It means learning to love like that everyday.
Everyday we have to acknowledge that we are two different people coming together as one.
With every year it gets easier to navigate through this aspect of marriage yet every year brings new situations, new seasons that require new discussions and new ways of seeing eye to eye.
Seeing eye to eye becomes the task that we never fully accomplish on our own.
We begin to realize that without God’s presence in our marriage… our pride, our selfish nature, our own ways will continue to keep us from being one.
We can’t even begin to see eye to eye without his help.
